The Glenn Miller Orchestra
The Glenn Miller Orchestra
Ray's in the mood, as the world’s greatest big band transports you back to the heady days and music of the 1940s, with the fabulous harmonies of the Moonlight Serenaders and the sublime vocals of Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter.

We are also proud to present, with the sounds of the Andrews Sisters, the Polka Dot Dolls.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Glenn Miller’s arrival in UK with his Army Air Force band to support the troops in the Allied Invasion of Northwest Europe. He played around 80 concerts and broadcasts including, famously, a sell-out concert at the De Montfort Hall on 11th September, 1944.

The Glenn Miller band played for 4000 men of the US 82nd Airborne Division prior to their deployment the following Sunday in The Arnhem Operation. There is a memorial to the 82nd Airborne Division in Victoria Park as they were based in Evington.

Sadly, Glenn Miller disappeared on a flight to Paris just three months later.

The current UK orchestra was formed by Ray McVay in 1988 under licence from the Glenn Miller Estate. It has exactly the same line-up as Glenn’s original band, five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones and three rhythm plus male and female vocalists. It’s as near to the original sound as you can possibly get!

We’re proud to say we’ve already played the 75th anniversary of the Dambusters last year.

The show features classics like, In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, American Patrol, Little Brown Jug, Tuxedo Junction and the song that became pop history’s first gold disc, Chattanooga Choo Choo!

Audiences of all ages will be thrilled by the sound of this amazing Big Band.
